Walcha is all set to welcome riders to the inaugural Walcha Motorcycle Rally on 19 & 20 November with a great program of events planned over the few days.
The showground gates open Thursday 18th at 2pm for registrations and campers. This will be a laid-back evening for ticketholders of local music, pizza and drinks from 4pm to gear everyone up for the next few days.
The Friday program includes pre-booked organised Adventure and Road rides run by Armidale Adventure Riders and Oxley Riders. Showground activities and entertainment start at 1pm and include exhibitors, motorcycle gymkhana, burnout comp, tyre throwing comp, sidecar gymkhana, a Barbering Biker makeover, BackTrack dog jumping, stunt-rider and live music from The Wise Guyz.
Attendees can take the opportunity on Saturday morning to enjoy Walcha Farmers’ Market and Billy Cart Derby at McHattan Park. Supported Adventure Rides will head off in the morning for those who have pre-booked. At 11:30am a street procession of motorcycles and hot rods will run through town. Showground activities and entertainment start again on Saturday at 1pm with a Show & Shine, exhibitors, dirt bike barrel races, motorcycle gymkhana, tyre throwing comp, Barbering Biker makeover, stunt-rider and demolition derby. Enjoy live music by Al Buchan & the Buchaneers with their 70s music roadshow from 6:30pm.
New England Antique Machinery and New England Model Trains will have a terrific display set up at the showground from 1pm both days. Our MC for the event will be Australian actor and singer Ben Mingay, who will also be performing a set on Thursday night with Pale Ailments.
Exhibitors include; Harley Davidson with demo adventure bikes, Oz Trikes, Live to Ride Magazine, Oxley Riders, Harry’s Motorcycles & Mechanical, Vintage Japanese Motorcycle Club Aust., Shannon’s Insurance, Adventure Rider Magazine, Ural of Oz, Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service, MotoFest Wauchope, and our generous sponsors IGA & TOBCO.
Delicious food, including Mak’s Turkish Gozleme, Rotary & Lions BBQ and Pizza on Wheels, will be available at the showground on Friday and Saturday from 1pm. Fenwicke Teahouse will be operating from the Luncheon Pavilion with hot spuds, sandwiches and sweet treats. A breakfast BBQ by Rotary and Lions will be available at the showground from 6am-9am each morning.
Walcha sits at the crossroads of two of Australia’s best rides, the Oxley Highway and Thunderbolts Way, making it a go-to destination for touring motorcyclists. The Walcha area also boasts 590kms of gravel roads for Adventure Riders to explore. “With friendly hospitality, stunning natural surrounds and amazing rides, Walcha is a great place to visit” said Walcha Tourism Manager, Susie Crawford.
Tickets are $55 for the full Rally Pass or $30 for a Day Pass. Camping is available at the showground, Rally Hub, for a flat rate of $30 per person and visitors can stay for up to 3 nights. A free town loop shuttle bus will be provided for ticketholders so they can enjoy all the wonderful things that are on offer in Walcha.
