Ducati has announced the Multistrada V4 Rally, a new variant on the platform aimed at improved comfort, longer range and better off road ability.
Aimed at the premium end of the market the Multistrada V4 Rally will be available at the end of the first quarter of 2023, priced at $41,400 ride away.
Even the base model version of the Rally features standard Ducati’s radar to provide adaptive cruise control and blind spot detection, while the higher spec models offer aluminium cases, heated grips and seats and an Akrapovic silencer and carbon fibre front guard.
For Australian Road Rider the headline feature is the larger tank, now 30 litres, which could mean a range of 500km.
Changes have been made to make the new bike even better on dirt roads.
From the press kit:
“…semi-active suspensions with travel increased to 200 mm that guarantees a higher ground clearance, on a new Power Mode dedicated to off-roading, on wider rider footpegs with a more marked profile and removable rubber insert and on the Skyhook DSS EVO control strategy, even more precise and efficient in this model.”
The engine appears to be unchanged, but there’s a new enduro mode.
“Selecting the Enduro Riding Mode activates a dedicated Power Mode, which limits the power to 114 hp with a dynamic and direct response. The DSS Evolution gets ready for off-road riding by indicating the load mode with a specific icon, depicting an off-road helmet. The DTC switches to a lower intervention level and the DWC is deactivated. The ABS on the rear wheel is also deactivated and cornering functionality and rear lift detection are suppressed to adapt to off-road use.”
The monocoque aluminium chassis and double sided swingarm remain, but the Rally gets redesigned and lightened tubeless spoked rims.
Ducati is at pains to point out the bike is also at home touring between cities, with more comfort for not just the rider, but the passenger as well.
“The windshield has been redesigned (increased by 40 mm in height and 20 mm in width), the tail has been lengthened and the case attachment set back to offer more space in the leg area for the passenger, who can also count on footrests with larger rubber inserts to reduce the level of transmitted vibrations. Furthermore, thanks to the availability of saddles of different heights for both rider and passenger and the lowered suspension kit, the Multistrada V4 Rally can be customized to suit any rider and passenger combination. The Minimum Preload function, already introduced on the Multistrada V4 S in 2022, allows the rider to “lower” the bike when stopping and riding at low speed, by minimizing the preload of the shock absorber. The Multistrada V4 Rally takes a further step forward in terms of ease of use by introducing the Easy Lift function which, by opening the suspension hydraulics at key ON, reduces the effort required to lift the motorcycle from the side stand thanks to fork and shock absorber compression.
In addition, to facilitate the loading and unloading of the side cases and make any maintenance on long journeys away from home easier, a central bike stand is standard on this bike.”
To reduce fuel consumption and emissions at low speeds Ducati has equipped the Multistrada V4 Rally with Extended Deactivation, shutting down the rear bank of cylinders at idle and even low speed. Australian Road Rider is also hoping this reduces heat transmission on hot days.
“The Multistrada V4 Rally also introduces a brand-new strategy of extended deactivation of the rear cylinder bank, a technical solution debuting for the first time in the world on a production motorcycle with the “Rally”. In addition to switching off the rear cylinders at idle with the motorcycle stationary, a function already present on the Multistrada V4, the V4 Granturismo now keeps the rear bank deactivated in other operating conditions to the benefit of fuel consumption and emissions.
With this new strategy, deactivation takes place even with the motorcycle in motion: as speed increases or above a certain power request from the throttle grip, the rear cylinders are reactivated, guaranteeing the character and performance of the V4 Granturismo. This system is active in all Riding Modes.”
The Multistrada V4 rally with be available in two colour schems: Ducati Red and Brushed Aluminium & Matt Black, the latter with an exposed brushed aluminium tank, with black spoke rims for both.
