Following the recent launch of the R nineT Scrambler, BMW has released details of its two new models. The R nineT Pure and the R nineT Racer.
Both new models retain BMW’s air/oil-cooled boxer engine capable of 81kW that is combined with a 6-speed transmission.
Equipped as standard are five-spoke light alloy cast wheels in 3.5 x 17” at the front and 5.5 x 17” at the rear. For stopping, both BMWs boast 4-piston brake calipers with 320-millimetre discs at the front, with ABS onboard as standard.
To help reduce wheelspin, an ASC (Automatic Stability Control) option is available ex works.
In regards to suspension, the front is taken care of by a conventional telescopic fork while the rear is managed by a BMW Paralever system with a central spring strut.
The R nineT Pure draws on a blend of both classic and modern stylistic elements with details such as footrests and fork bridges in forged aluminium with a clear anodised finish.
The Pure model’s fuel tank and front mudguard are painted in Catalano Grey non-metallic in contrast with its black suspension and drivetrain components.
The R nineT Racer has a crouched, compact design and is said to deliberately arouse ‘memories of the sports motorcycles popular in the early 1970s’. To do this, the Racer is equipped with a short half-fairing, hump seat, stub handlebars and set-back footrests.
For paint, the Racer is coated in Lightwhite non-metallic with three stripes reminiscent of previous BMW Motorsport colours.
Continuing the theme of ‘classic styling’, both machines are equipped with a stainless steel exhaust system with the rear silencer positioned on the left. The system has a polished finish on the Racer and a brushed finish on the Pure.
Familiar from the Scrambler, the new variants make use of a modular steel tubular space frame that consists of three components; the front main frame, rear main frame and removable passenger frame. The latter is said to provide ‘flexibility to change the appearance and character’ by giving the ability to add different seats from BMW’s accessory catalogue.
