Honda Australia’s off-road race team GHR Honda star in a locally produced four-part documentary Dream of Dakar which is screening on the National Geographic Adventure Channel over the next few weeks.
Dream of Dakar provides a unique insight into the workings of the GHR Honda off-road team over a twelve month period as they prepare to challenge large, factory teams in their first ever attempt at the Dakar Rally. The season of dreams, challenges, failures and triumphs presents a highly charged adrenalin fuelled adventure.
With a 33 year history, The Dakar Rally is considered the toughest motor sport event in the world. Completing the Dakar is an achievement in commitment, self-belief, persistence and often, sheer luck.
In recent years, GHR Honda under Glenn Hoffmann’s direction has dominated off-road racing in Australia. Boasting wins in the Australasian Safari, Condo750 Cross Country Rally, Finke Desert Race, Hattah Desert Race and more, Dream of Dakar follows the team as Glenn realises his long time dream of competing in The Dakar Rally.
The GHR Honda team’s number one rider is Jacob Smith, despite having several wins and podiums under his belt the 22 year old from outback Australia has never travelled outside of Australia and can therefore not prepare for what lays ahead when the team touchdown in Buenos Aires, the starting city of the Dakar Rally.
With tenacity and classic dry Aussie humour the team takes up the challenge and incredibly manage to survive their first Dakar Rally.
