Turn the commuting grind on its head with the entry level street fighter GIXXER 250.
The quarter-litre street bike heralds Suzuki’s return to the quarter-litre road-based ranks in Australia, with all the virtues to scythe through city traffic in a slick and efficient manner. Agile and nimble handling, light weight, a low seat height and dual-channel ABS for extra reassurance in all conditions.
The GIXXER 250 takes its place in Suzuki’s local line-up alongside the fully faired GIXXER SF 250 sportsbike, to form a potent two-pronged strike on the 250cc market. Both models join the recently released V-STROM 250SX adventure touring motorcycle which shares the same motor, frame and engineering.
The four-stroke GIXXER 250 firmly takes its place in the now, ideal for learner and experienced riders alike and with styling cues from Suzuki’s legendary stable of cult motorcycles such as the GSX-R family and the iconic Hayabusa. Design highlights include the stylish twin-outlet exhaust with chrome caps, brushed-finish alloy wheels, rear tyre hugger and the easy-to-read digital console.
Light and compact, the GIXXER 250’s compact, 249cc, single-cylinder engine incorporates Suzuki’s oil cooling system, designed to provide high output, durability and ease of maintenance alongside frugal fuel economy. Fact Suzuki developed the world’s first oil cooled motorcycle engine.
Maximum power is 19.8kW (26.7hp) at 9300rpm, with the torque peak (22.2Nm) arriving 2000rpm earlier – a flexible and smooth user-friendly powerplant that has just the right temperament in start-stop traffic.
There’s a broad spread of ratios with the six-speed transmission, while the front brake caliper grips a massive 300mm disc for strong, effective braking.
The low 800mm seat height, narrow waist and generous 1345mm wheelbase also add to the GIXXER 250’s urban stocks, and the 41mm front fork combines excellent damping qualities with superb ‘feel’ – especially in wet conditions.
The wide 150-section 17-inch rear tyre also ensures ample contact patch with the surface – as well as the poise to take on twisty roads when commuting and city riding morphs into weekend fun. Pillions can also join in on the action thanks to an expansive seat and grab rail.
And the total weight of all this poise and polish? Only 156kg, fully fuelled for the GIXXER 250, or 161kg for the fully faired GIXXER SF 250.
