BMW updates midsize twins with unveiling of MY25 BMW F 900 R and F 900 XR models
BMW updates midsize twins with significant technical and visual upgrades and more standard equipment for both the F 900 R and F 900 XR models aimed at improving dynamics and touring capability respectively.
“With a significantly extended range of standard equipment, fully adjustable upside-down forks, lighter wheels and a weight saving of 3kg, we have been able to make the BMW F 900 R and F 900 XR even more attractive,” Anton Huber, Project Manager says. “The new BMW F 900 R also benefits from a sportier riding position and the BMW F 900 XR from optimised aerodynamics.”
BMW says both F-models are designed for sportiness and fun in twisty terrain, and that the new BMW F 900 R is a ‘Dynamic Roadster’ with a focus on sporty riding while the F 900 XR has ‘everything it takes to be a confident partner on longer tours and holiday trips with luggage’.
Both machines are powered by a Euro 5+ compliant 895cc parallel twin that makes a claimed 77kW (105 bhp) of power and what BMW describes as a full-bodied torque curve.
Both bikes come standard with Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) and engine drag torque control, preventing rear wheel spin or skidding respectively, caused by abrupt throttle release or downshifting. They also fetaure ABS Pro (cornering ABS) and Dynamic Brake Control (DBC).
The bikes are equipped with new fully adjustable 43mm USD forks and new lighter wheels that shave 1.8kg off overall weight. A further 0.8kg is saved through the use of a lighter battery as standard, while an optional Akrapovič silencer saves another 1.2kg and is said to give a tastier sound to parallel twin which features a 270-degree firing interval.
Both R and XR models score a new rear end with function-integrated turn indicator lights (brake and tail light functions are integrated into the turn indicator lights). The F 900 XR comes with Headlight Pro as standard, including daytime running light and adaptive headlight.
Other new standard features of the F 900 XR include a USB-C charging port and heated grips, while the F 900 R gets a repositioned handlebar and footpads for a more sporty riding position.
The new BMW F 900 XR offers even more touring capability and long-distance comfort thanks to optimised aerodynamics in the front fairing. A redesigned wind deflector reduces wind pressure on the rider, resulting in significantly less helmet vibration and even greater riding comfort. The hand protectors, which are standard for all equipment variants, also provide improved protection from the wind and weather.
There is a comprehensive range of genuine accessories available for both models:
