After the success of hosting the 2015 National HOG Rally, Tamworth in NSW is running its own event aimed at all riders, named the National Thunder Rally. Originally scheduled for 2020 but postponed due to the pandemic, the re-scheduled event is on Friday October 1 to Monday October 4.
The event promises “four huge days of bikes, music, food and exceptional entertainment scheduled, this brand new and truly unique event is open to individual riders, club members and organised groups representing ALL motorcycle manufacturer brands”. Given Tamworth is also the Country Music Capital of Australia, it’s a place known for putting on a show.
“We’re really excited for Tamworth to provide the opportunity for riders to get back on their bikes and onto the road after a difficult year,” said Barry Harley, National Thunder Event Manager.
More information from the organisers:
The National Thunder Rally will feature an exciting line-up of live music on the Thunder Stage reliving the sights and sounds of the 70s, 80s and 90s, bespoke equine entertainment including the National Thunder Horse Spectacular, trade sites, food stalls and licensed bars, and much, much more. The National Thunder Rally Run will close out the event, travelling through the Tamworth CBD and out across the Tamworth region.
“Regardless of what club or brand you’re aligned with, National Thunder is about getting back out there with mates, sharing the passion of the motorcycle community and putting on a great show,” said Mr Harley.
“To add to the excitement of our inaugural event, we’re thrilled to announce that the New South Wales Harley Davidson Owners Group (H.O.G) have indicated that they intend to hold their State Rally in conjunction with the National Thunder Rally,” Mr Harley said.
H.O.G Regional Director (NSW/ACT) Ken McDonald said: “The merge is something that has been considered for some time and I’m excited to formally announce the partnership”.
“Harley Davidson enthusiasts and H.O.G Chapters are set to flock to Tamworth from all corners of the State to take part in one of the most anticipated events of our riding calendar. Riders will enjoy a phenomenal line-up of entertainment, Chapter challenges and guided rides,” Mr McDonald said.
Taking over the Australian Equestrian and Livestock Events Centre (AELEC) and with guided rides spread across the diverse landscapes of the Tamworth region encompassing Nundle, Bendemeer, Barraba and Manilla, National Thunder 2021 will not only provide riders with the event experience we’ve all been missing, but will also open up opportunities to explore our own backyard whilst supporting regional economies.
“The AELEC proved its versatility and strengths as a rally venue when it hosted the hugely successful Harley Davidson National Rally in 2015,” said Barry Harley, National Thunder Event Manager.
“Its sheer size means it’s the perfect space to offer up unforgettable entertainment whilst ensuring there’s plenty of room for patrons on-site as they move between scheduled offerings.”
“Our H.O.G members had a blast in 2015 and we can’t wait to come back to AELEC for another memorable rally,” Mr McDonald said.
Great value registration is now open at $149 and includes rally merchandise, access to all rides and entertainment across the weekend, and an entry into the Rally Raffle supporting Ronald McDonald House Charities Northern NSW. Glamping and BYO camping options are available on-site.
Event organisers are planning for a COVID Safe event and will continue to monitor State and Federal Government recommendations and regulations.
“With the health situation ever-changing, we’re pulling together a great line-up of entertainment whilst planning for all scenarios with the safety and wellbeing of all patrons in mind. This includes considerations around any additional cleaning, marshalling, security and sanitising station requirements,” said Mr Harley.
