HONDA CB1000 HORNET SP UNDER $20K RIDE AWAY

New Honda CB1000 Hornet SP priced from just $17,990.

The new Honda CB1000 Hornet SP will be priced at just $17,990 plus on-road costs, with some dealers already advertising it at $19,990 ride away, representing one of the better deals on the market for those after a potent 116kW (155hp) super-naked.

Using the powerplant from the 2017-on Fireblade, albeit with a slightly reduced compression ratio and revised camshaft to maximise midrange torque over top-end power, the new Honda CB1000 Hornet SP features a steel twin-spar frame with a fully-adjustable 41mm Showa SFF-BP USD fork and an Öhlins TTX36 rear monoshock. Rake and trail are set at 25° and 98mm, with wheelbase of 1455mm.

Honda describes the riding position as pure streetfighter, with an 809mm seat height is 809mm and a handlebar position that is set up and back, paired to a “sporty footpeg position” and a rider triangle with relatively upright upper body position.

Braking is by way of twin 310mm discs up front with Brembo Stylema four-piston radial-mount calipers.

A ride-by-wire throttle enables three riding modes with preset combinations of settings for Power, Engine Braking and traction control (HSTC) with integrated Wheelie Control. As well as Rain, Standard and Sport modes, there are two customisable modes so riders can tailor settings.

Honda says the gear ratios have been chosen for optimal acceleration, while the six-speed gearbox features an assist/slipper clutch. A two-way quickshifter is fitted as standard.

On the styling front, the new Honda CB1000 Hornet SP features twin LED projector headlights that are said to “define the pure aggression of a streetfighter’s style”. The frame, engine and swingarm are finished in black.

A five-inch colour TFT offers Bar, Circle and Simple display patterns, and features smartphone via the Honda RoadSync app. Menus are accessed via a backlit four-way toggle switch on the left handlebar.
